1. Why should I choose to get tested with Health Hope while the public hospitals are offering free COVID-19 test?

Our company aims at providing safe, easy and accurate testing that allows customers to collect their samples at home. This can reduce the risk of transmission in the community, as well as the burden on the healthcare system. However, if you have severe symptoms of COVID-19, please seek medical advice promptly.

2. Why the test provided by Health Hope is cheaper than the other providers such as laboratories, private hospitals and clinics?

The COVID-19 RT-PCR test provided by Health Hope is a non-profitmaking programme, so the price we charge is reasonable and transparent. In order to meet the demand for COVID-19 test in the society, our company hopes that we can contribute to the society and get through the uncertain time together.

3. What are the differences of the COVID-19 test provided by Health Hope and the other institutions such as clinics, public and private hospitals?

The COVID-19 test provided by our company adapts RT-PCR technique which can detect the N gene and ORF1ab gene of SARS-CoV-2 in individuals. It is considered as a global gold standard technology. Our test follows the Hong Kong COVID-19 Tests Guide and is the same as the RT-PCR test provided by private healthcare institutions.

4. Is it an internationally recognized test?

Yes. The sample collection pack provided by Health Hope is approved by the CFDA, CDC, CE-IVD, WHO and CHP.

5. How accurate is the test?

Based on research results, the sensitivity and specificity of COVID-19 RT-PCR Test both reach 99.9% in COVID-19 detection. According to the laboratory testing standards and regulations, if the sample is tested positive, Health Hope will have an extra confirmatory test in order to ensure a positive COVID-19 test result is obtained from the same sample.


Note: Customers do not need to submit another sample.

6. What will the test tell me? How do I provide my sample?

This test can detect if there are N gene and ORF1ab gene of SARS-CoV-2 in the sample. According to the Hong Kong COVID-19 Tests Guide, deep throat saliva sample must be collected in the morning when the viral load is the highest.

7. When will I receive my test results?

You will receive an email notification within 24/36 hours after your sample successfully delivered to the laboratory.

8. How would my sample be tested in the laboratory?

This test can detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in your body (positive or negative). If you purchase the collection pack from Health Hope’s website or from brick-and-mortar stores, test results will be directly sent to provided e-mail and WhatsApp; If you purchase the collection pack from healthcare providers, test results will be sent to providers’ email and you can consult them for the results.


According to the laboratory testing standards and regulations, if your sample is tested positive, Health Hope will undergo an extra confirmatory test with the same sample to confirm positive COVID-19 test result is obtained. If your sample is confirmed to be positive, it indicates that you are infected and may transmit the virus to others. We will then inform you the results. According to the law, we will notify and send your sample to the Centre for Health Protection for further evaluation.


If you receive negative results, it indicates that SARS-CoV-2 was not detected in your sample. However, it does not mean that you will not have COVID-19. It is possible to obtain negative results when you were at the early stage of infection where the viral load is still low, so virus is not detected in your sample. The other reasons for receiving negative results can be your sample was not collected properly, or you are infected after the sample collection.


Some reports stated that the incubation period of COVID-19 can be up to 27 days, so if you are tested negative and have mild symptoms, such as fever, cough and shortness of breath, and/or have had close contact with an infected individual, please consider to have a retest within the 2-14 days incubation period.

9. Am I eligible for the test?

According to the Hong Kong COVID-19 Tests Guide, this test is not suitable for individuals who are currently experiencing severe symptoms including constant chest pain or pressure, severe cough, severe shortness of breath, extreme difficulty breathing, constant lightheadedness, serious disorientation or unresponsiveness, and/or severe fever (over 38°C).


If you have the above symptoms, please seek medical advice immediately; If you do not have the above symptoms, you are eligible for the test.

10. If I am under the age of 18, am I eligible for the test?

Yes. The test provided by Health Hope is eligible for anyone under the age of 18. However, the test should be performed with parents or guardians’ consent and guidance.

11. How will my data be used? Who will have access to it?

Our company owns a laboratory that meets the requirements of international standards. We also administer several steps and protocols to ensure customers’ data remains safe and secure. If your test result is negative, only you and Health Hope will be able to access to your test results data. We do not share your data with any third party or any other member and partner of our company.


For individuals who receive positive result, Health Hope is required to notify the Centre for Health Protection (an agency under the Department of Health in Hong Kong that is responsible for disease prevention and control) as COVID-19 is listed as a statutory notifiable disease. Your information would be used as new infections tracking data for the purpose of public health awareness and response.

12. What kind of samples will be rejected?

– Incorrect sample type
– Incorrect/ broken sample container
– Leakage
– Insufficient sample volume for testing
– No barcode on the sample container
– Patient’s double identification as revealed by barcode do not match with the one in the printed test request form
– Prolonged period in between sample collection and sample reception (more than 24 hours)
– No collection date and time being recorded

13. How can I cancel and get a refund?

Cancellations or refunds can only be issued if:
・ You have requested it within the 30 days cooling-off period ;
・ You have not completed (or attempted to complete) any tests; and
・ You have not received a lab report or result, whether digital or physical copy.
・ A cancellation fee of 10% shall apply.
If your appointment is less than 24 hours away, we will not be able to provide you with any refund.
